An additional 35 Filipinos who were granted amnesty have been repatriated from Dubai, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai announced on Friday (November 1). Overseas Filipinos who enlisted for the repatriation program will receive financial assistance upon arrival in Manila, according to the Philippine Consulate. The latest batch of repatriates flew on a flight to the Philippines on Thursday (October 31). According to the Philippine Consulate, the repatriates were from Dubai and Northern Emirates. Philippine Consul General Marford Angeles led the team at the airport to ensure that all repatriates experienced a seamless check-in and immigration process. This brings to 732 the total number of Filipinos granted amnesty under the UAE’s ongoing program and subsequently repatriated to the Philippines. On October 30, 80 Filipinos in Abu Dhabi were repatriated to the Philippines, consulate officials said. “These individuals, whose overstaying and absconding fines were generously waived under the UAE’s Amnesty Program, received essential assistance from the Philippine Government, including airfare and consular documentation support,” according to the Philippine Consulate. Those with special cases were also aided in securing their exit passes. The UAE amnesty program, which began on September 1, was initially scheduled to end on October 31, but has been extended until December 31 to allow more people to comply with UAE residency laws. The amnesy allows those with lapsed visas to avoid penalties by either leaving the UAE or adjusting their visas. Following the UAE Government’s decision to extend the amnesty period, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Alfonso Ver, expressed his profound gratitude to UAE authorities for allowing more expatriates the opportunity to legalize their immigration status. He also urged eligible Filipinos who have yet to take full advantage of the amnesty program to legalize their residency or exit the country.
