The UAE government has granted amnesty to Filipino and Sudanese families, helping them regularize the legal status of undocumented children. This humanitarian initiative was highlighted in a video released by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). A Filipino mother, who had overstayed in the UAE for nearly two years, expressed gratitude after receiving fresh visas for her family under the ongoing amnesty program. The family, including their two-year-old daughter, can now live without fear of legal repercussions. “We are so very thankful to the government of the UAE because now we can go anywhere without hesitation, without fear.. Now we are happy,” she said. The Migrant Workers Office at the Philippine Consulate General has reported 146 cases of Filipino children born to unwed parents without birth certificates, with more expected to benefit from the amnesty. In a similar case, a Sudanese woman shared her relief after the fines accumulated for her newborn’s visa delay were waived. Thanks to the amnesty, her daughter will now receive necessary healthcare and education. “I gave birth recently and we didn’t get a residence visa and our circumstances did not allow us to proceed with it. So, we started getting fines. After the fines, it was a huge problem,” the Sudanese woman said. “We heard about the amnesty and things became easier. They helped us and removed the fines,” she said, adding that her daughter will greatly benefit from the amnesty. “She will be able to get treatment at the hospital right away, study normally and her status in the country will be normal,” she said.
