The Bangladesh Consulate General in Dubai has set up a help desk at Al Awir to assist Bangladeshi nationals applying for amnesty. The desk will provide advice and guidance to amnesty applicants. Consul General BM Jamal Hossain has also met with Lt Gen Mohammad Ahmed Al Marri, director general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA), and visited various amnesty services at the Al Awir immigration centre. During their meeting, Hossain thanked Al Marri for the support and services offered by the Dubai immigration department. Furthermore, Al Marri encouraged overstaying Bangladeshi nationals to take advantage of the amnesty and to bring the necessary documents when applying. The Bangladesh Consul General also met with representatives from 18 organisations at the Al Awir Center to discuss job opportunities for Bangladeshi job seekers. The two-month visa amnesty scheme, which began last Sunday, has already helped thousands of applicants regularise their status within the first week. Some have decided to leave the country, while others have chosen to stay, all without having to pay fines or face bans.
